Important FAQ

The Master of Education in Teaching & Induction Program offers the opportunity to earn both a California Clear Credential and a Master of Eduction in Teaching. The program teachers educators how to delve into a challenge facing them in the classroom. Teachers learn how to access the latest research on these topics, design an intervention addressing this challenge, present their proposal to a panel of experts, and then spend the second semester collecting data and analyzing the impact of their intervention. Teachers will engage in ongoing examination of their practice, noting how their research is impacting their practice.

In the Induction Program, teachers clear their credential by working with a site-based coach. In the Master of Education in Teaching & Induction Program, teachers meet 2-3 times a month with a cohort of other candidates. The rigorous coursework and the ongoing coaching from their Reach faculty member leads to a Clear Credential as well as a Master of Eduction in Teaching.

The Master of Education in Teaching & Induction Program combines research with practical, classroom-tested work. Many master’s programs focus more on the research portion, and the practical application of research is not always tested. Likewise, for many classroom teachers, they remain separate from the body of research that should be informing their craft. This program pushes teachers to be the consumers and creators of knowledge about teaching as they read and then apply what they are learning about, analyzing its effects on the learning of their students.

If you completed the Reach Intern Program, you are eligible to apply for the Master of Education in Teaching & Induction Program. If you completed another program for your preliminary credential, you may enter the Master of Education in Teaching & Induction Program by completing one year of Reach’s Induction Program and completing a three unit course of Specialized Study (to be designed by the Master of Education in Teaching & Induction Program Director). You may also choose to complete the entire Induction Program and then enter the Master of Education in Teaching & Induction Program the following year.

If you did a year of Induction with another program, if you complete your second year of Induction with Reach as well as the three unit program of Specialized Study, you would be eligible for the Master of Education in Teaching & Induction Program.
